Work with me

If you've got a story to tell, I can put it into words for you. Together, we will make your book a reality. There's no feeling in the world like holding your own book in your hands for the first time!

The first step is to get in touch with me through this website. Then we'll meet each other, ideally in person, to discuss your book idea. This is an exciting moment, when we get our heads together and start working out a plan for making the book happen.

Based on our discussion, I'll draw up a proposal for you, summarising the timeframe for writing your book, the personally-tailored approach I'll bring to it, including content and structure, and the estimated cost. As a long-established journalist, I'm highly aware of issues of trust and confidentiality. Just as I always protect my sources, I promise that our arrangement will remain entirely private, a project undertaken between only two people: you and me.

Once a contract is agreed, we'll move to the interview stage, where you relate to me the story you want to tell. Don't worry about being interviewed - I've conducted many hundreds of interviews over the years, so you're in safe, experienced hands. Clients often say that, far from being daunting, they find this a particularly satisfying process.

Part of being a successful journalist is the ability to assimilate information quickly, and to use that knowledge to formulate inspired, insightful questions that get right to the heart of the story. And as a published author, in both fiction and non-fiction, I know how to build that information, episode by episode, into a book.

As well as recording the details of your story, it's also important for me to get a sense of your own distinctive voice, manner and use of language: the unique way you express yourself. This is vital, in order to ensure that the resulting manuscript sounds authentic.

Then it's over to me, as your ghostwriter, to take all that rich raw material and weave it into a clear, compelling and highly readable story. After that, the ghost can float away. It's your book, after all!

Fionola Meredith is an excellent writer and story-teller. She's a great listener, she's deeply committed to her work, and she's sensitive and kind to the people she interviews. You know you can trust her to do a brilliant job.
